My life before the Wii

When I was about 8 years old I was a very happy kid, I used to play with my toys, with my brother, I used to read, to travel with my family, and do other things kids do.

But one day I went to a friend’s house and he showed me his Nintendo Wii; I got amazed by how it worked, and how you had to make movements to play the games, and when I returned home I started to search on YouTube videos about Nintendo Wii games, specifically  Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2.

My father saw how I talked about the console and how good it was, so, on my 9th birthday, he gave me my own Wii, I got really happy, and I still have it until today

Our Talks

On September 23th an event called Our Talks happened at Colégio Agostiniano São José and it was basically a series of TED talks in a row, except all the talks were made and presented by students of the school.

In short it was amazing. In the first moment there weren’t many people watching because a competition between classes was happening, but after the half of it, the room got filled with people (because the competition ended).

Our Talks started with a prayer, a song and an introduction made by the last year´s members, and then it really started. The first one “The real Education”, by Ligia, is definitely my favorite because it not only was spoken with very good English, but the theme messed with me, it made me think about it several times.

Other talks that I liked are: “I´m free to talk”, “The failure of democracy”, “Equality or justice” and “Getting aware of disarmament”

In summary it was an incredible experience, totally worth it, and maybe I´m going to participate next year…

Art in Churches

On September 12th we (9ºA) went to some churches of or city and we saw some very interesting pieces of art.

It started with the class going with Roberto (the art teacher) to his classroom to learn a bit about what we were going to see, then, at 8am we all got inside the buses and went to the churches.

The first church was Paróquia de Nossa Senhora do Sagrado Coração, where we saw some Wood sculptures as well as creations of José Antônio da Silva; the second one was Basílica Menor de Nossa Senhora Aparecida, which had the organ and the neoromantic style, tho it needed some repair in the walls; the last one was Igreja Ortodoxa Antioquina de São Jorge that was built by the Arabic community in the byzantine style, and it also had a a big tower.

After that the class walked to “Mercadão” and we all ate pastel, finally we went to a ice cream shop and relaxed there.

It was a very interesting and also educational, but not the boring type of educational, the fun type, and I enjoyed it very much.
